To obtain an apostille from the Louisiana Secretary of State, Tom Schedler, in Baton Rouge follow these guidelines:
The office of the Secretary of State will authenticate signatures of Louisiana officials, County clerks, State Registrars and Notaries public.
Please review the following considerations to make sure your Louisiana documents can be apostilled.
Considerations for notarized documents must be signed and dated by a Notary Public in good standing with a complete Jurat/acknowledgment and printed name under signature.
Considerations for divorce documents must be certified copies signed by the clerk of the court or Ex-Officio Deputy Sheriffs.
Considerations for school documents issued at the Louisiana State University, Tulane University, University of New Orleans, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana Tech University and Loyola University New Orleans among others, transcripts and diplomas must be signed by the university’s registrar of the high school superintendent.
Considerations for Vital records only properly certified documents will be acceptable for apostille. You must obtain a certified copy of your birth, marriage or death certificates signed by the State Registrar of vital Records. You can obtain a new copy from the office of vital records registry Vital Records Registry at P.O. Box 60630 New Orleans, LA 70160.
Note: Louisiana birth and death certificates are not public records. This is otherwise called “closed record” state.
Who can request a copy of a vital record? The person named on the document or spouse, parent, adult child, sibling, grandparent or an adult grandchild of the person named on the document.
