How to authenticate Affidavit of Single Status for use in China?

Individuals who are planning to register for marriage in China are required to apply for an Affidavit of Single Status authentication, or sometimes called Single Status Certificate/Statement/Affidavit.

Some marriage offices in China may have special requirements or preferences for filling out your affidavit. We suggest to check with the respective local office for details. We highly recommend to send a draft to the office for review and approval before proceeding with the authentication. CEV is not liable for any errors in your form. What are the steps for authentication of Affidavit of Single Status?

You must have the document authenticated in the following order:

1.) Notarization by local Notary Public

2.) Authentication by Secretary of State

2a.) Authentication by US Department of State for the following states: Delaware, Idaho, Kentucky, Maryland, Montana, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming and Washington DC.

3.) Authentication by Chinese Consulate or Chinese Embassy
